Mick

The family called him “Little” Mickey until about the time he reached 6 feet tall, when he insisted they call him Mick Most of them called him Mickey, though, and his mother still called him Little Mickey!

Mick attended Bluffton High School through his sophomore year. He was best known as an outstanding golfer, earning medalist titles in many matches. During the long summers, he usually played golf seven days a week. The rest of his time on summer days was spent caddying or selling golf balls. He earned money by diving in the lake at the country club and retrieving lost balls, then selling them for a quarter each at the clubhouse.

The photo above shows Mickey receiving a trophy from the golf pro at the local country club. If that’s a golf ball at his foot, it looks a tad large!

When the family moved to Detroit in 1970, Mick continued to play golf on his high school team.
